Palma is Majorca’s capital and brings a little bit of city life to the island which is known for its beaches and lovely holiday spots. People who visit Majorca by plane start their trip in Palma, as the airport is situated approximately 8 km outside of town. Most of the tourists continue their trip by bus, going to their exact holiday destination on the island which can be basically anywhere. Only few people stay in the city of Palma for their holiday. There are several tourists staying over the weekend though. Apart from the locals there are thousands of visitors running around the streets, photographing and sightseeing. Gastronomic culture in Majorca differs from British and mainland European food and drink culture. The locals of Majorca try to avoid the sun at around midday as it often is unbearable. They like to take a nap at this time of the day and postpone their lunch to the afternoon at around 4 pm when the heat is retreating. Dinner won’t take place until 8 or 9 pm. It is usually taken outside the house with family and friends joining in. Children stay up until late at night with their parents and play on the streets.
